The Story of the Autograph
Roger Erickson is a former right-handed pitcher in the major leagues. His career ranged from 1978 to 1983. He played for the Minnesota Twins and the New York Yankees.
Erickson went to the University of New Orleans. He was drafted by the Twins in the third round of the 1977 MLB Draft. He made his major league debut the next season on April 6, 1978. His rookie season was the best he had in his career. He went 14-13 (the only winning record he would ever have) with a 3.96 ERA over 37 starts and 265.2 innings. Considering that was by far the most game and innings he would ever play, it’s great that his ERA was the third best he would ever put up.
He played with the Twin until 1982. During that season the Twins traded Erickson and Butch Wynegar to the Yankees in return for Pete Filson, Larry Milbourne and John Pacella. Erickson would pitch with the Yankees through the 1983 season but was traded to the Royals along with Steve Balboni for two players. But while Balboni had some great years in Kansas City, Erickson never pitched for them in the majors.
The Score on Roger Erickson – 6.5
Roger has a great signature. As I look at his signature I realize how great a capital “E” can be when it’s in cursive. I love that it has a bit of a loop to it at the bottom. The best of these cards is the 1983 Topps card because you can see the autograph really well.
Thanks Mr. Erickson! I’m giving this return a 6.5.
