The Story of the Autograph

Robinson Chirinos is currently a catcher with the Texas Rangers. He’s been in Texas since 2013. Prior to that he was with the Rays in 2011.

Chirinos is from Venezuela and while he made his major league debut with the Rays in 2011, he started out in the Cubs organization. He was signed by the Cubs all the way back in 2000 when he was a youngster. He was granted free agency in 2008 but signed back with the Cubs in 2009. The Cubs then traded Chirinos to the Rays along with Chris Archer and Brandon Guyer among others for Matt Garza. He would only play 20 games with the Rays.

He got to the Rangers in 2013 and played behind AJ Pierzynski, but he was starting many more games the next year and got 93 games under his belt in 2014. He’s pretty much a typical catcher these days with a lower batting average but still a little power and driving in some runs. This year Chirinos had an infamous incident with Matt Kemp where the benches cleared because Kemp collided with Chirinos and Robinson thought it was on purpose. Both were ejected.

I feel like not many people make a really good “R” for a capital. It’s sort of a awkward letter to sign in some ways I guess because it has straight lines and loops. But I like Robinson’s “R”. Overall I like his signature, but this card is not good for an autograph. It’s all I had though.

Thanks Mr. Chirinos! I’m giving this one a 5.5.
