The Story of the Autograph

Randy Cross is a former offensive lineman in the NFL. He played from 1976 to 1988 and spent his entire career with the San Francisco 49ers.

Cross was born in Brooklyn, New York but raised in Southern California. He played football but was also a great high school shot putter. He won state championship against a future world record holder (Terry Albritton) and future WWF star (Jim Neidhart) when he sent the 12 pound shot 67′ 6.5″. He attended UCLA and played football for the Bruins, helping them to the 1976 Rose Bowl against top-ranked Ohio State.

The San Francisco 49ers drafted him in the second round of the 1976 NFL Draft with the 42nd overall pick. He went on to play Center and Right Guard on some truly great 49ers teams. Those years include three Pro Bowl selections and three Super Bowl Championships. After retiring you’ve most likely seen Randy as a broadcaster for CBS, NBC, and Sirius Radio.

The Score on Randy Cross – 7.0

This one is pretty dark but I think something that helped in the score is that this is one of my favorite designs for football cards. I like Randy’s signature a lot so I’m hoping I can find more cards of his. One things I noticed with this card, and then after looking around a bit, is there a guy that looks more different on some of his cards than he looks today? It’s not all of them, and maybe it’s the helmet.

Thanks Mr. Cross! I’m giving this return a 7.
