The Story of the Autograph
Raisel Iglesias is a right-handed pitcher with the Cincinnati Reds. He started his career with the Reds in 2015 and was primarily a starter, but in the last two years he’s only made 5 starts in 100 appearances
Raisel is originally from Cuba, and his story is a lot like that of other Cuban players. He attempted to defect in 2013 by hiding out in the mountains around his hometown and was caught. Later that year he was successful and made it to Haiti and established residence. In an open tryout in Mexico the Reds saw him and signed him to a seven-year deal. He was added to the 40-man roster when he made it to the US.
It looks like Iglesias is now officially a closer. 2015 saw the Reds use him as a starter. Going 3-7 with a 4.15 ERA, even on a team that isn’t great didn’t do much for him. So in 2016 he was primarily a set up man and went 3-2 with six saves and a 2.58 ERA. Now that sounds more like it. Last year in 63 appearances he went 3-3 with 28 saves, a 2.49 ERA and 92 strikeouts. I think as long as the Reds give him the opportunity to be in position for saves, Raisel could be a pretty good closer.
The Score on Raisel Iglesias – 4.5
Raisel has become a pretty reliable signer and because of that, he’s become busy. Something others have noticed is that maybe within the last year he’s changed his signature a bit. Of course by that I mean he’s simplified it. Two letters, a line and a number is all we get these days. But you know what, if that’s your mark, that’s your mark. I will say, I’ve never seen him give a messy one or one that isn’t done with a good marker. So what you get is going to be quality.
Thanks Mr. Iglesias! Good luck this season! I’m giving these a 4.5.
