The Story of the Autograph

Paul Wagner is a former right-handed pitcher in the major leagues. He worked as both a starter and a reliever in a career that spanned from 1992 to 1999. During that time he played for the Pittsburgh Pirates, Milwaukee Brewers and Cleveland Indians.

Wagner was born and raised in Wisconsin. He attended Illinois State University and was All-MVC second team and first team while there. He is the most recent pitcher in the school’s history to throw a no-hitter, doing that in 1987. The Pirates drafted him in the 12th round of the 1989 MLB Draft. After a few years in the minors he made his major league debut on July 26, 1992.

He worked mostly as a starter in the first half of his career that he spent with the Pirates. But he also spent a good portion of that time as a reliever as well. His ERA was over four in those years (if not the five-plus ERA he put up in 1996). His most difficult season was 1995 when he went 5-16 and led the league in losses. He had a shot at a no-hitter in the majors in 1995, that was broken up in the ninth inning by Andres Galarraga.

The Pirates released him in the middle of the 1997 season and he signed with the Brewers. From there it was a lot of bouncing around but he only ever spent time in the majors with the Brewers and Indians, though he tried with two other teams as well.

In more recent years he’s worked as a coach for the Lake County DockHounds.

These came out pretty strong from Paul. While I think normally the black marker mixed with a Pirates uniform is a touch one, he happes to be in white or gray jerseys in each which is easier. I actually think these are a lot better looking in person.

Thanks Mr. Wagner! I’m giving this return a 7 overall.
