The Story of the Autograph
Paul Molitor is a former designated hitter, infielder, manager, and member of the Baseball Hall of Fame. He played from 1978 to 1998 with the Milwaukee Brewers, Toronto Blue Jays and Minnesota Twins.
Molitor is a native of St. Paul, Minnesota. He was first selected in the 1974 MLB Draft in the 28th round by the Cardinals as a pitcher when he was in high school. He instad went to the University of Minnesota and was an All-American shortstop for the Golden Gophers. The Brewers then drafted him in the first round of the 1977 MLB Draft with the third overall pick. After just one season in the minors he debut on April 7, 1978.
He played right away but in his first years he moved around the infield a bit defensively as other young players worked their way onto the squad, like Robin Yount. He was a hitter from the get go and batted .322 in 140 games in his second year in the league. He made his first trip to the All-Star game the following year. He spent a long time in Milwaukee and while he was there he led the league in runs three times, hits once, had five All-Star appearances, and two Silver Sluggers. He earned MVP votes six times and was the runner up for Rookie of the Year.
While he wanted to remain with the Brewers, they weren’t offering him a good deal when he was a gree agent after the 1992 season. He signed a big deal with Toronto and helped get them back to the playoffs and a second consecutive World Series appearance and win. He earned his final two All-Star appearances while north of the border and another Silver Slugger.
Molitor finally joined his hometown Twins in 1996 for the last few years of his career. He got to 3,000 hits while in Minnesota and was the first to do so with a triple. He also led the league in his in 1996 with a career high 225. He ended his career after the 1998 season with a lifetime average of .306.
He stayed with the Twins as a bench coach for a few seasons. He moved on to be a hitting coach witht he Mariners and came back to the Twins to be coach minor leagues. In 2015 he became the manager of the big ball club. He got the Twins back to the post season and earned Manager of the Year honors. He lasted until 2018, but stayed on with the Twins as a special assistant.

Paul has a pretty solid signature. It just tends to be on the small side. I think that is accentuated with the fact that I think most times he uses a pretty thin marker. I do like the little quirk in his signature that to me it always looks like his “P” is backwards.
