The Story of the Autograph
Mike Parrott was a right-handed pitcher in the majors from 1977 to 1981. He spent the first year of his career with the Orioles and then spent the next four with the Seattle Mariners.
Parrott was drafted by the Baltimore Orioles in 1973. He was the fifteen overall pick that year. After spending the first few years in their minor league system he was the International Leagues Most Valuable Pitcher in 1977. The Orioles decided to make him a September call-up that year and he made his major league debut on September 5, 1977. He pitched in three games over the rest of the year and only gave up one run in 4.1 innings pitched.
Later that year, in December, the Orioles traded Parrott to the Mariners for two other players. He had one winning season and it was the best of his career. In 1979 he went 14-12 and led the team in wins. His 3.77 ERA was the best of his career and was after putting in 229.1 innings. Would the success continue in 1980? Well, he won the opener for the Mariners and things got off to a good start. Then he lost the next 16 straight to finished 1-16 and have the longest losing streak by a pitcher in the 80’s. Nothing like setting the bar high at the beginning of the decade right?
In 1982 the Mariners traded Parrott to the Brewers and he never made major league roster again.
The Score on Mike Parrott – 2.0
From a scoring perspective, there are so many problems here. First, ball-point pen… ’nuff said probably right there. Second, it’s soooo small. Third, the 1981 card just didn’t pick up the pen at all. I always appreciate someone signing, but this one just did not come out well at all.
Thanks Mr. Parrott! Unfortunately I’m giving this one a 2.
