The Story of the Autograph
Mike Minor is a left-handed pitcher starting pitcher with the Texas Rangers. He came into the league in 2010 with the Braves and also played last year with the Royals. He’s had success in the majors but also had to deal with some major time off due to shoulder surgery and rehab.
Minor grew up in Tennessee and was drafted in the 13th round of the 2006 MLB Draft by the Rays. However, he decided not to sign and chose instead to attend Vanderbilt. He went on to play for the Commodores with the likes of major leaguers like Pedro Alvarez and David Price who were first round picks in the draft. Minor won awards and received plenty of honors in college and made the US National Team. Then the Braves chose to draft him with the seventh overall pick in the first round of the 2009 Draft.
His major league debut came in August of 2010 against the Chicago Cubs. He would set a rookie record with 12 strikeouts against the Cubs in is third career start and second career victory later that year. He had some good years with the Braves in 2012 and 2013 with going 11-10 wit a 4.12 ERA and 145 Ks and then 13-9 with a 3.21 ERA and 181 strikeouts respectively. He had a disappointing 2014 and pitched most of the year with a short shoulder. While making a lot of attempts to come back he didn’t appear in a game in 2015 and the Braves decided not to tender him a contract at the end of the year.
The Royals signed him as a free agent but he still didn’t throw a pitch in the majors in 2016. 2017 brought his first bullpen gig with 77 2/3 innings pitched over 65 games. He was one of the Royals best relievers. His velocity was up and he had a 2.55 ERA over that time, but he wanted to go back to starting. The Rangers signed him to a three year-deal and he started off well this year going 12-8 with a 4.18 ERA in 28 starts.
The Score on Mike Minor – 5.5
I like Mike’s autograph but this one definitely smudged. It’s funny that the 2013 card smudged so much and the 2018 card didn’t. It made me wonder if anything changed with the coating on the cards between those years. The “Ms” in Mike’s along wit the other letters make it look like a heartbeat style autograph. I’ll definitely try for Mike’s autograph again in the future.
Thanks Mr. Minor! I’m giving this return a 5.5.
