The Story of the Autograph
Mike Krukow is a former pitcher in the majors. He played from 1976 through 1989 for the Cubs, Phillies and Giants. These days he works as the color commentator on the Giants TV broadcast.
Krukow was born and raised in Southern California. He was first drafted by the California Angels as a catcher in 1970 but chose not to sign. He then pitched and played as Cal Poly San Luis Obispo. The Cubs then drafted him in the 8th round of the 1973 MLB Draft. He made his major league debut three years later as a September call-up on September 6, 1976.
He had a solid career with almost a .500 record through the first half of his career in Chicago and Philadelphia. Then he was traded to the Giants and after a couple years of the same solid pitching, he broke out. In 1986 he went 20-9 in 34 starts with a 3.05 ERA and 178 strikeouts in 245 innings. He earned his only All-Star appearance and was third in the Cy Young Award voting.
In 1989 he underwent surgery to repair a torn rotator cuff and ended up retiring before the 1990 season. These days he’s loved by the Giants fans as being a not only a knowledgeable former player, but also a funny man. He works with his long time partner Duane Kuiper.
The Score on Mike Krukow – 6.0
Mike has a really strong solid signature. And with nice thick marker he used on this one it really drives home how solid it is. I kind of like how he sort of combines “Mike” and “Krukow” in a way. These are great but I need to try to find some more Giants cards of his. I think I wrote to him about his days as a Phillie and maybe that’s why he signed the Phillies cards.
Thanks Mr. Krukow! I’m giving this return a 6.
