The Story of the Autograph

Mark Teahen is a former third baseman and outfielder in the major leagues. He played from 2005 to 2011. While he mostly played with the Kansas City Royals, he also spend seasons with the Chicago White Sox and Toronto Blue Jays.

Teahen was born and raised in California and after high school he attended St. Mary’s College. The Oakland Athletics drafted him 39th overall during the 2002 MLB Draft. But before he could make it to the bigs with the Athletics they traded him. He was part of a deal between the Athletics, Royals and Astros that involved among others, Carlos Beltran and Octavio Dotel.

After a great Spring Training in 2005, Teahen made the roster and played in 130 games in his rookie season. He picked it up the next year though. That sophomore season he hit 18 homers, 69 RBI and had a .290 average (all career highs) while primarily playing third. He would put up some OK numbers during his time in Kansas City but never the same as that 2006 season. He would move on to the White Sox and Blue Jays via trade.

His father was born in Canada and Teahen decided to become a naturalized Canadian citizen to allow him to play for Canada in the World Baseball Classic in 2009. In 2011, he and Brett Lawrie played for the Blue Jays and because the first time they had two Canadians in their lineup.

After playing with the Blue Jays Teahen tried to make it with the Nationals, Diamondbacks, Rangers, Giants and a minor league team but never made it back to the Big Leagues.

Mark has a “slash” style of signature. Everything but the “M” kind of has the same sort of direction to it and he’s almost making a shape of it. These came out OK and I love getting those Bowman Heritage cards signed. The weight of those cards and the matte finish always means for at least a pretty good effort.

Thanks Mr. Teahen! I’m giving this return a 6.
