The Story of the Autograph

Mark McLemore is a former major league player. He spent much of his career at second base but also spent time as an outfielder and shortstop. His long 19-year career spanned from 1986 to 2004 and during that time he played for the California Angels, Cleveland Indians, Houston Astros Baltimore Orioles, Texas Rangers, Seattle Mariners, and Oakland Athletics.

McLemore was born and raised in San Diego, California. He was drafted out of high school by the Angels in the ninth round of the 1982 MLB Draft. After four years in their minor league system he made his first appearance as a September call-up on September 13, 1986. He played with the Angels for the first five years of his career in the majors before being traded to the Indians for what would eventually be Ron Tingley.

He moved around some until finding a place in Baltimore for three years from 1993 to 1995 and then heading to the Rangers from 1995 to 1999. He had some good seasons with the Rangers but it was with Seattle that he found some good success. He was part of their 116-win season and was used as a super sub by Lou Piniella. He played in Oakland before calling it a career.

After his playing days he worked for ESPN and currently is part of the Texas Ranger broadcast team.

Mark does a great job on these cards. I love that this is a good selection of the teams he really played a lot for. I think my favorite card is the 1993 Upper Deck card, but I don’t think that card is the one that came out the best. That might be either the UD Choice card or the 1987 Donruss card. I think there’s a lot of choices for a favorite in this group.

Thanks Mr. McLemore! I’m giving this return a 7.5.
