The Story of the Autograph

Marc Hill is a former catcher in the major leagues. He played from 1973 to 1986 for four teams: St. Louis Cardinals, San Francisco Giants, Seattle Mariners, and Chicago White Sox.

Hill (whose nickname was “Booter”) was born and raised in Elsberry, Missouri. The Cardinals drafted him with the tenth pick of the 1970 MLB Draft out of high school. He made his major league debut with them just three years later toward the very end of the 1973 season (September 28th) and played in just that one game that year.

The Cardinals traded him to the San Francisco Giants after the 1974 season and Hill spent his first significant time there in the Bay Area. He had maybe the best seasons of his with the Giants in 1977 when he played in 108 games and hit .250 with nine home runs and 50 RBI.

After playing for the Giants, the Mariners purchased him in the middle of the 1980 season. He became a free agent at the end of that season and moved on to the Chicago White Sox where he finished his career. While with the White Sox he played on their 1983 American League Western Division championship team.

The Score on Marc Hill – 6.5

Marc used a huge marker on these. It came out really strong on a couple, but that 1979 card didn’t really take it as well as the others and it almost looks like it’s fading. He signs these cards as you might think a left-hander would signed them, but he’s not a left-hander. I think maybe he doesn’t necessarily turn them when taking them out of the envelope.

Thanks Mr. Hill! I’m giving this return a 6.5.
