The Story of the Autograph

Luis Rivera is a former middle infielder in the major leagues. He played in eleven seasons between 1986 and 1998 with the Montreal Expos, Boston Red Sox, New York Mets, Houston Astros and Kansas City Royals.

Rivera was born and raised in Puerto Rico. He was signed by the Montreal Expos as an amateur free agent in September of 1981. He spent several years in the minors before making his major league debut on August 3, 1986. He spent his first three years with Montreal and became more of a starter in 1988 when he played in 123 games.

He was traded to the Red Sox in December of 1988 with John Dopson for Spike Owen and Dan Gakeler. He had his most productive years in Boston. His best year in Boston, and probably in the majors was 1991 when he hit .258 with a career high eight home runs and 40 RBI. After Boston he moved around a bit to different teams and spent two whole years in the minors.

After his playing days he’s been a coach. That started with Cleveand in their minor league system. In 2003 he was the South Atlantic League Manager of the Year. Since 2010 he’s been with the Blue Jays, starting in the minors and now with the major league club.

This was something I forgot I even sent. I love getting it but I immediately thought “why didn’t I send some with him in a different uniform?” But a couple of these came out really great. The 1991 Score and Upper Deck cards are my favorites. His “L” either looks backwards or as if its a “J” doesn’t it?

Thanks Mr. Rivera! I’m giving this return a 7 overall.
