The Story of the Autograph

Kenny “Sky” Walker is a former Forward in the National Basketball Association. He played from 1986 through 1991 with the New York Knicks and then 1993-1995 with the Washington Bullets. In between those stints in the NBA he spent time playing in Europe.

Walker was born and raised in Georgia and went on to be named Mr. Basketball in the state in 1982. From there he went to play for the University of Kentucky. His time there included a run to the Final Four in 1984 where they lost to the Georgetown Hoyas. In 1986 the Knicks made Walker the 5th overall pick of the NBA Draft.

The Knicks were always in flux in those days and Walker played for five coaches in five years. But the highlight of his career was winning the 1989 Slam Dunk Contest. He competed just three days after the death of his father. He came back the next year to finish third. And that was in the days when it seemed like the Dunk Contest actually meant something.

But knee injuries forced Walker out of the NBA and he moved on to play in Spain and Italy. He would return to play with the Bullets. But then later played overseas again, this time in Japan.

These days Walker lives in Kentucky and does local radio.

The Score on Kenny Walker – 6.0

Kenny was always one of my favorite players growing up. He had the high top fade, he had a nickname, he could dunk, and he was on my favorite team. He always seemed like a guy you just wanted to root for. And now, I love his signature. It’s awesome that he includes his nickname in there, even though it’s hard to tell on these cards.

Thanks Mr. Walker! I’m giving this return a 6.
