The Story of the Autograph

Ken Forsch is a former right-handed pitcher in the major leagues. He worked as a started and a reliever in his career from 1970 through 1986 with the Houston Astros and California Angels.

Forsch was born and raised in Sacramento, California. He played college baseball with the Oregon State Beavers. He was chose in the 1966 and 1967 MLB Drafts by the Angels and Cubs respectively, but never signed. He finally signed after the Astros drafted him in the 18th round of the 1968 draft. After a couple years in the minors he made his major league debut on September 7, 1970.

He started his career as a starter mostly and moved into a relief role in the 1974 season while in Houston. Two years later he would make his first All-Star team while with the Astros. In one of the best seasons of his career he went 4-3 with 19 saves and a 2.15 ERA in 52 games and 92 innings pitched. The Astros traded him to the Angels before the 1981 season but not before he pitched a no-hitter for them.

He made another All-Star team in his first year with the Angels. At that point he had worked back into a starter role and had an 11-7 season with a 2.88 ERA and threw four shutouts to lead the league.

Ken is the brother of Bob Forsch who threw two no-hitters of his own making them the only brothers with no-hit shutouts.

The Score on Ken Forsch – 6.0

Ken has a pretty simple signature like some other guys (maybe similar to Bill Virdon). It always come out pretty good, but my favorite ones are the 1976 and 1978 cards. The others with the facsimile signature always just seem to get in the way for me.

Thanks Mr. Forsch! I’m giving this return a 6.
