The Story of the Autograph
For more about Jordan you can check out my post from last year. In that post I covered his career through college and I was hoping I would get another of his SI covers back.
Spieth played his first professional tournament in 2013 when he missed the cut in the Farmers Insurance Open at Torrey Pines by two strokes. He still wasn’t even 20 years old yet and on July 14th he won the John Deere Classic on the fifth hole of a three-way sudden death playoff against Zach Johnson and David Hearn. That made him the fourth youngest teenager to do that since 1931. That victory granted him full status as a PGA Tour member and eligible for the FedEx Cup as well as the next three majors. He ended the season 10th on the PGA Tour money list and 22nd in the World Rankings.
He earned the PGA Rookie of the Year for 2013. Two years later he won the Masters (the cover shot for this post) and the U.S. Open en route to being name the PGA and PGA Tour Player of the Year as well as the PGA Tour leading money winner. 2015 was even better than that though as he was the FedEx Cup Champion and the Vardon Trophy and Byron Nelson Award winner for leading the tour in scoring average. He also did that in 2017.
Since that amazing 2015, Spieth also won The Open Champsionship (British Open) in 2017. While 2017 was a great year for Spieth, it definitely didn’t match those 2015 accomplishments. But this year was a bit of a struggle for Jordan as he went winless in the 2017-2018 season.
The Score on Jordan Spieth – 8.0
Jordan can really sign an SI. He signs nice and big and fills up the cover really well. If I wanted to nit pick it I would have said to sign on the other side of him because its a little bit lighter there, but for some reason from a placement perspective I like where he signed. I don’t think the picture does it justice.
Thanks Mr. Spieth! I’m giving this one an 8.
