The Story of the Autograph

Jon Koncak is a cormer center in the NBA. He played from 1985 to 1996 with the Atlanta Hawks and Orlando Magic.

Koncak was born and Iowa and grew up in Missouri. He went to college at Southern Methodist University. Before going to the NBA he was part of the gold medal winning team for the United States in the 1984 Olympics in Los Angeles. He was then drafted in the first round of the 1985 NBA Draft with the fifth overall pick by the Hawks.

He spent almost all of his career in Atlanta. Throughout that time he was mostly a reserve, especially in the first half or so of his career. In 1989 he almost went to Detroit but then signed a six-year $13 million dollar deal with the Hawks when they matched the Pistons offer. While that might not seem a lot today, it was a lot then, especially for someone who was a reserve.

Before he closed out his career he signed with the Magic in 1995 and played one year in Orlando. They traded him the following year with Donald Royal and Felton Spencer to the Golden State Warriors for Cliff Rozier, Rony Seikaly and a draft pick.

His career numbers were 4.5 points per game, 4.9 rebounds per game, 1 assist and 1 block per game.

For a big guy Jon seems to have a signature on the small side. Or maybe it’s just that it’s all bunched up into one spot. I think my favorite of these is the 1991 Upper Deck card. That one just shows it off better than the rest of these. It’s also showing what is probably a hustle play which is good for Jon.

Thanks Mr. Koncak! I’m giving this return a 6.5.
