The Story of the Autograph

John Jason is a former catcher, designated hitter and first baseman in the major leagues. He played in nine seasons from 2008 to 2017 with the Tampa Bay Rays (twice), Seattle Mariners, Oakland Athletics, and Pittburgh Pirates.

Jaso is a California native. He went to Southwestern College and was then drafted by the Rays in the 12th round of the 2003 MLB Draft. After several years in the minors he made his major league debut as a September call-up on September 6, 2008. He played in only a few games that season and was back down in the minors for all of the 2009 season. But in 2010 he played in 109 games.

He was traded to the Mariners for the 2012 season and caught Felix Hernandez’s perfect game, against his former Rays teammates. Before the next season he was moved to the A’s in a three team trade that also involved the Nationals. The other players involved were Michael Morse, Ian Krol, AJ Cole and Blake Treinen. He was traded yet again in January of 2015, this time back to the Rays.

Before the 2016 season he signed a deal with the Pirates where he would end up closing out his career. While he played the most games in his career at catcher, he stopped playing there due to concussion issues. He had two solid seasons in Pittsburgh and then retired to travel.

The Score on John Jaso – 6.5

John, like a like of guys with a “JJ” name, or any repetitive letter name, has that going for him. The matching initials add a little bit two what is ultimately an eight letter signature. These came out OK although there is a bit of a blank spot in the marker on some. I think one thing I like best about these is that they are the polar opposites of his hair cut during his career.

Thanks Mr. Jaso! I’m giving this return a 6.5.
