The Story of the Autograph
Jody Davis is a former major league catcher. He played from 1981 to 1990 with the Chicago Cubs and the Atlanta Braves.
Davis was born and raised in Georgia. He was first drafted in 1976 by the New York Mets in the third round of the MLB Draft. Before getting to the majors he was traded to the St. Louis Cardinals in 1979. The next year, 1980, he was taken by the Cubs in the Rule 5 Draft and would make his MLB debut for the Cubs on April 21, 1981.
He played in 56 games that first season and quickly became the Cubs starting catcher. His offense was always pretty good with the Cubs. He hit a career high 24 homers and drove in 84 RBI in 1983 and then drove in a career high 94 runs the next year on his way to his first All-Star game. It was defense that was always the challenge. However, after working with Johnny Oates he earned a second All-Star appearance and a Gold Glove.
Eventually Damon Berryhill would come along to replace him and Davis moved on to the Atlanta Braves. He later went into coaching and is now the manager of the Louisville Bats.
The Score on Jody Davis – 6.0
I had tried to send to Jody last year and got nothing from it. It was funny because I had seen others getting successes. This year I got it back and I really like his signature. The “J” and the “D” have the same feel to their swoops which is cool.
Thanks Mr. Davis! I’m giving these a 6.
