The Story of the Autograph

Jim Ritcher is a former guard in the National Football League. He played from 1980 to 1990 with the Buffalo Bills and the Atlanta Falcons.

Ritcher was born and raised in Ohio. He wrestled in high school in addition to playing football. He heard a scholarship to North Carolina State where he earned consensus first-team All-American honors and won the Outland Trophy, awarded to the nation’s best interior lineman, as a senior. In 1998 he was elected into the College Football Hall of Fame.

The Bills drafted him in the first round of the 1980 NFL Draft with the sixteenth overall pick. He was moved from center to guard and spent so many years in Buffalo. He went through some lead years with them to ultimately be part of the consecutive Super Bowl appearances of the early 90’s. In 1991 and 1992 he earned Pro Bowl selections.

He finished his career out with the Atlanta Falcons. After retiring he’s worked as a commercial pilot for American Airlines.

I’m not sure exactly why, but I really love the style of Jim’s “J”. It’s bubbly but boxy at the same time. It actually appears as if his “R” is almost just his “J” turned in a different direction. I think this is just good style overall. I’m not exactly sure what his inscription stands for “To God Be the Glory.”

Thanks Mr. Ritcher! I’m giving this return a 6.
