The Story of the Autograph
Jim Mason is a former shortstop in the major leagues. He played from 1971 to 1979 with the Washington Senators/Texas Rangers (twice), New York Yankees, Toronto Blue Jays, and Montreal Expos.
Mason was born and raised in Mobile, Alabama. He was drafted in the second round of the 1968 MLB Draft by the Senators. He made his major league debut on September 26, 1971 and played three games for the Senators. He stayed with them in their move to Texas and kept building his playing time. Then his contract was purchased by the New York Yankees after the 1973 season.
He got his best shot in the league in his first year in New York when he played 152 games. that year he had a lot of career bests when he hit .250 with five home runs, 37 runs batten in and six triples. From there his playing time started to dip for the rest of his career. In 1976 he was part of the Yankees run to the 1976 World Series that they lost to the Reds. He hit a home run in his only plate appearance of the ALCS, the 500th in the history of the World Series.
In 1977 he was drafted by the Blue Jays in the 1976 Expansion Draft with the 30th overall pick. He was then traded by the Blue Jays with Steve Hargan for Roy Howell, back to the Rangers. He was then finally traded to Montreal in 1978 for Mike Hart.
The Score on Jim Mason – 6.5
Him has a pretty simple signature. It’s of the variety where just about everything is based on his capital letters / first initials and the rest is pretty much a line. Although it does look like he kind of gets the second letter in there sometimes. I think my favorite of these is the 1979 Topps card. I think the blue really pops on that one.
Thanks Mr. Mason! I’m giving this return a 6.5.
