The Story of the Autograph
Jeremy Guthrie is a former right-handed pitcher in the major leagues. He played from 2004 to 2017 with the Cleveland Indians, Baltimore Orioles, Colorado Rockies, Kansas City Royals, and Washington Nationals.
Guthrie is a native of Oregon and in high school played basketball and football as well as baseball. He was also his class’ valedictorian. He attended BYU and then transferred to Stanford. He helped the Cardinal reach the 2001 College World Series final where they lost to Miami in the championship. The Indians then made Guthrie their first round pick in 2002 with the 22nd overall pick in the MLB Draft. He made his first appearance for the Indians on August 28, 2004.
Guthrie was released from the Indians and the Orioles picked him up off waivers in 2007. It’s as an Oriole that I remember him best definitely. Of course those weren’t always great years for the Orioles and Guthrie never putt up great records with them. But he did show a lot of promise in 2007 when he started and was an Opening Day starter for them as well.
He moved on to the Rockies and the Royals by trade. He spent some significant time with the Royals from 2012 until 2015. After his time with the Royals he tried to make it on some minor league deals with a few clubs. The best he did was with the Nationals but after one of his worst ever starts he designated for assignment and never made it to the big leagues again.
The Score on Jeremy Guthrie – 7.0
I have some other autographs from Jeremy and I’ve always like the style of his signature. Sometimes it appears to me like we are only seeing the bottom loops of it and that the top is cut off. I just find it interesting how it’s a whole lot of bottom.
Thanks Mr. Guthrie! I’m giving this return a 7.
