The Story of the Autograph

Jerad Eickhoff is a right-handed starting pitcher for the Philadelphia Phillies. The 2018 season will be his fourth in the majors, all in Philadelphia.

Jerad was originally drafted by the Chicago Cubs in the 46th round of the 2010 MLB Draft, but didn’t sign and stayed at college. The next year the Rangers drafted him in the 15th round after he went 10-4 with a 1.90 ERA and was the Pitcher of the Year in his conference at Olney Central College. He signed with the Rangers and played on their Arizona League team and then with their minor league team in Spokane. He would continue in the minors through 2015.

At the trade deadline in July of 2015, the Rangers traded Eickhoff along with Nick Williams, Matt Harrison, Jake Thompson, and Jorge Alfaro for Cole Hamels and Jake Diekman. The Phillies would debut him in August of that year. I remember getting to see him pitch and thinking that he would definitely grow into a good pitcher in the league. He seemed to be intimidating on the mound and he pitched strong although he didn’t have a great team back then. In his first full year in 2016 he went 11-14 in 33 starts with a 3.65 ERA.

In 2017 he definitely struggled with injuries some. He got 24 starts and went 4-8 with a 4.71 ERA. This year it looks like he might be starting on the DL after a lat strain.

The Score on Jerad Eickhoff – 6.0

Jerad looks like he has a quick signature, but I’ve seen guys with signatures like that have a lot less detail than this (and I mean A LOT less). That “J” really helps. I think it’s another of those letters that can really add style to your name if you do it right. Jerad signs with his number but it almost looks like “18” instead of “48”. I like his signature and it’s nice and big. Usually I love signatures on Gypsy Queen but in this case it definitely would’ve come out better on the other card that he sent back unsigned.

Thanks Mr. Eickhoff! This gets a 6.
