The Story of the Autograph
Jeff Reed is a former catcher for the Twins, Expos, Reds, Giants, Rockies and Cubs. He played from 1984 through 2000.
Reed was born and raised in Illinois and was drafted out of high school with the 12th overall pick in the first round of the 1980 MLB Draft by the Twins. Four years later he would make his major league debut for Minnesota on April 5, 1984. He only made 25 appearances in those first two years and then played 68 games in 1986 and then he was traded before the 1987 season as part of a deal involving Neal Heaton and Jeff Reardon.
He played mostly as a backup and was known mostly for his defense throughout his career. In 1988 while with the Reds he caught Tom Browning’s perfect game in Cincinnati against the Dodgers. Browning credited him in his book for being a big part of making that happen.
His best year offensively came in his second year in Colorado. In 90 games he hit .297 with 17 homers and 47 RBI – all career highs. These days Reed is a coach for the Elizabethton Twins in the minor leagues.
The Score on Jeff Reed – 2.0
This score is all marker. It probably would have come out a lot better if it was a good marker. This one looks almost completely dead. And I would bet that the marker in this condition changes the signature a little bit too. I’ll definitely have to try Jeff again sometime and see if I can improve on these.
Thanks Mr. Reed! I’m giving this return a 2.
