The Story of the Autograph
Jay Aldrich is a former right-handed relief pitcher in the major leagues. He played during three seasons from 1987 to 1990 for the Milwaukee Brewers, Atlanta Braves and Baltimore Orioles.
Aldrich went to school at Montclair State University in New Jersey and was drafted by the Brewers in the tenth round of the 1982 MLB Draft. After several years in the minors he broke into the majors on June 5, 1987. He made it into 31 games and pitched to a 3-1 record with a 4.94 ERA. He would be back down to the minors for the 1987 and 1988 seasons through.
The Brewers brought him back up in 1989 and then traded him to the Atlanta Braves as part of a previous deal involving Ed Romero. He didn’t get as much of a chance in Atlanta for the rest of that season and was released. He then went to Baltimore to finish out his major league career.
He was signed as a replacement player by the Pirates during the 1995 player’s strike but never appeared for them.
The Score on Jay Aldrich – 5.5
Jay has one of those signature (and I would classify my own signature like this) like he’s just scribbling. You can pick out the “J” and “A” but there isn’t much definition to anything. You can see that he doesn’t want to sign his face though because the 1988 Topps card is a little smaller and more deliberate.
Thanks Mr. Aldrich! I’m giving this return a 5.5.
