The Story of the Autograph

Bruce Coslet is a former tight end and head coach in the National Football League. He played from 1969 to 1976 with the Cincinnati Bengals and then was a head coach for the New York Jets and the Bengals from 1990 to 2000.

Coslet was born and raised in Oakdale, California and went to college as Pacific. As a player he only had one year with more than 20 receptions and that was 1971. That year he started six games, caught 21 balls for 356 yards and four touchdowns.

After his time as a player he went into coaching. He worked under Bill Walsh in San Francisco and then Sam Wyche in Cincinnati before getting his first head coaching gig with the Jets in 1990. His best season in New York, and in fact anywhere was 8-8 which he did in 1991 and 1993. The team didn’t have much consistency and some bad injury luck in 1992.

It wasn’t better with the Bengals. He put up a 7-2 record when he came in in 1996 but then only got seven wins the next year as well, but with nine losses. He was let go in 2000 after starting out 0-3. He coached for the Cowboys after a year off as their Offensive Coordinator in 2002.

The Score on Bruce Coslet – 6.5

Bruce is like some other folks that will sign cards sideways. Jim Leyland is who I usually think of that way. He has a pretty standard signature but it came out really well on these cards. I think the 1991 Pro Set card looks best, probably because the image on the card let’s you really see the signature.

Thanks Mr. Coslet! I’m giving this return a 6.5.
