The Story of the Autograph

Jamey Carroll is a former infielder in the major leagues. He played from 2002 to 2013 with the Montreal Expos/Washington Nationals, Colorado Rockies, Cleveland Indians, Los Angeles Dodgers, Minnesota Twins and Kansas City Royals.

Carroll was born and raised in Evansville, Indiana. He stayed local and went to college at the University of Evansville. He was an All-American for the Purple Aces after his senior year. The Montreal Expos drafted him in the 14th round of the 1996 MLB Draft. He first appeared in a major league game for them on September 11, 2002. He appeared in sixteen games to close out that season.

Starting in 2002 he would play in at least 100 games for several seasons in a row, even while changing teams a few times, that included a change when the Expos moved to Washington, D.C.. Unsurprisingly his best offensive year might have been in Colorado in 2006. That year he hit a career high five home runs with 36 RBI while putting up an even .300 average. The following year he was with the Rockies for their trip to the World Series that they eventually lost to the Boston Red Sox.

He had some good years with the Dodgers and Twins before closing his major league career out with the Royals in 2013 after being traded there mid-season. He tried to make it with the Nationals in 2014 but never made the team out of Spring Training. In 2015 he went to work for the Pirates in their front office.

Unfortunately these cards didn’t do Jamey many favors to help him show off what looks like it could be a pretty cool signature. I always love how the Topps Heritage cards come out and that’s a nice one. But the Upper Deck card is just so dark and of course the Rockies black jerseys don’t help.

Thanks Mr. Carroll! I’m giving this return a 6 overall.
