The Story of the Autograph
Jack Daugherty is a former outfielder and first baseman in the major leagues. He played in six seasons from 1987 through 1993 with the Montreal Expos, Texas Rangers, Houston Astros, and Cincinnati Reds.
Daugherty was born in Florida but spent his high school days in a different sunny place…, San Diego, California. After graduating he attended college at San Diego Mesa College and then the University of Arizona. He was first signed by the Oakland Athletics in 1982 as an amateur free agent. The release him before he appeared in the big leagues and he want to the Expos. He made his debut on September 1, 1987 but only got in 11 games that season.
In 1988 the Expos traded him to the Rangers which is where he spent the better part of his career in the majors (1989 through 1992). He mostly played under 60 games a season, but in 1990 he made it into 125 games. That year he hit .300 with six homers and 47 RBI. Injuries limited his 1991 season and he never got back to that 1990 form.
He moved on to the Astros via free agency and they traded him to the Reds. After playing his last game in the majors on October 5, 1993 he tried to make it back with the Rockies but never could. Before he called it a career he headed over to Japan and played the 1996 season with the Chipa Lotte Marines.
The Score on Jack Daugherty – 6.5
I’m trying to think of another signature similar to Jack’s. It’s a bit small, or maybe thin is a better descriptor, but it’s also his own. It definitely has a style to it. I like the way the “J” is kind of mirrored by the “y” at the end.
Thanks Mr. Daugherty! I’m giving this return a 6.5 overall.
