The Story of the Autograph

Jabar Gaffney is a former wide receiver in the NFL. His eleven year career spanned from 2002 to 2012. During that time he played with the Houston Texans, New England Patriots, Denver Broncos, Washington Redskins, and Miami Dolphins.

Gaffney was born in San Antonio, Texas but by the time he was in high school he lived in Jacksonville, Florida. He helped his team win a state championship in 1997 and caught the game-winning touchdown in the fourth quarter of that game. He went on to attend the University of Florida and became a standout receiver for the Gators in the days of Steve Spurrier as head coach.

The Texans made him the first pick in the second round of the 2002 NFL Draft. His play was up and down while in Houston. The best of his years there was probably 2004 when he caught 68 passes but had 632 yards and two touchdowns. The Texans didn’t resign him and he moved on to Philadelphia but was cut before the season.

The Patriots signed him and in his three years there he did hit a career high in touchdowns with the five he had in 2007. After New England it was on to Denver where he would start three consecutive years of yardage career highs (732 in 2009, 875 in 2010, and then 947 in 2011 with Washington).

This return from Jabar feels like a tale of two cards. The Topps card really seems like it didn’t take the ink very well  otherwise it would have come out great. The Rookies & Stars card looks really good though. I think it helps that it’s one of the types of cards I really like where the image of the player is really set off on the card with a faded or black and white background.

Thanks Mr. Gaffney! I’m giving this return a 6 overall.
