The Story of the Autograph

Isaiah Rider is a former shooting guard/small forward in the NBA. He played from 1993 to 2001 with the Minnesota Timberwolves, Portland Trailblazers, Atlanta Hawks, Los Angeles Lakers and Denver Nuggets.

Rider was born and raised in the Bay Area of California. He was one of the best basketball players in the state of California in high school and after attending a couple junior colleges he went to UNLV to play with the then really strong Runnin’ Rebels programs of the early to mid-90’s. While he was there though the school was dealing with some NCAA-imposed punishments that kept them off of TV. The Rebels went 26-2 during his first season and 21-8 in his second season.

The Timberwolves drafted him with the fifth overall pick of the 1993 NBA Draft. He made the All-Rookie team in his first season. He also won the 1994 Slam Dunk Contest which he predicted when he was drafted. After his rookie season though he wasn’t as strong a player and he had off-court issues that didn’t help either. The Timberwolves would end up trading him because they couldn’t deal with it anymore.

He moved between teams through the rest of his career and continued to deal with off the court issues. That continued even after he played and in 2007 he went to prison for cocaine possession, evading policy and battery. After being released he’s starting a charitable organization (Sky Rider Foundation) to help kids with extracurricular activities that can’t afford it.

Finally some basketball cards that can show off an autograph a bit better. The Stadium Club cards really show off Isaiah’s signature pretty well. The best of them is that shot of him from the backboard. That is just an awesome angle a great shot for a card.

Thanks Mr. Rider! I’m giving this return a 6 overall.
