The Story of the Autograph

Greg Ostertag is a former center in the NBA. He played between 1995 and 2006 for the Utah Jazz and Sacramento Kings.

Ostertag is a native of Dallas, Texas. He helped his high school to the 1991 state championship and then went on to the play for the University of Kansas. He then helped them to get to the final four in 1993. A year later he had his best year statistically and blocked a school record 97 shots. The Jazz then selected him with the 28th overall pick in the first round of the 1994 NBA Draft.

He was meant to replace their prior big man, Mark Eaton, but those were some pretty big shoes to fill. He would become the starter at center in his second season and was part of the teams run to the 1997 and 1998 Finals. He went up against the likes of Hakeem Olajuwon, Shaquille O’Neal and David Robinson during those years.

After signing him to a long term deal, Ostertag struggled to maintain his conditioning and play well consistently. He could play better defensively at times but was never a tremendous offensive prescence like the Jazz wanted. In 2004 he moved on to the Kings when his contract expired. But he was back in Utah after a 13-player trade, the biggest in league history. He played his last game for the Jazz on April 19, 2006. He would later play in 2011 for the NBA Developmental League but only lasted 10 games due to a knee injury.

The Score on Greg Ostertag – 6.5

I didn’t really think that all of these cards would have great places to sign, but it seems that Greg did a great job finding the right spot. He got around a lot of the busy nature of basketball cards on the Upper Deck and Impact cards. The Topps card had the most obvious place and with that white background it really provides a great option.

Thanks Mr. Ostertag! I’m giving this return a 6.5.
