The Story of the Autograph
Greg McMurtry is a former wide receiver in the NFL. He played from 1990 to 1994 with the New England Patriots and the Chicago Bears.
McMurtry was born in Jackson, Mississippi and then was raise in Brockton, Massachusetts. He was actually drafted by the Boston Red Sox in the 1986 MLB Draft with the fourteenth overall pick of the first round. Instead of signing a six-figure signing bonus, he accepted a football scholarship to the University of Michigan. There he played for Bo Schembechler from 1986 to 1989 and helped the team to three conference championships and appeared in three Rose Bowl Games. The Patriots drafted him with their third round pick in the 1990 NFL Draft.
His best season was his second season, 1991. He caught 41 passes for 614 yards and two touchdowns, all career highs. After four solid years with the Pats he signed with the Rams in 1994 but was cut before the season started. He went on to the Bears where he played in nine games and started four to close out his career.

Greg sure doesn’t have much to his signature. At first I thought is was just “G” with a star. But if you look a little closer you can kind of see what I think is the “M” of his first name right at the bottom of the “G”. At least I think that’s what it is. It could be him finishing out his first name but there’s no “g” to signify that.
