The Story of the Autograph

Gord Murphy is a former defenseman in the National Hockey League. He played from 1988 to 2002 with the Philadelphia Flyers, Boston Bruins (twice), Florida Panthers, and Atlanta Thrashers.

Murphy was born and raised in Ontario, Canada. He was drafted by the Flyers in the ninth round of the 1985 NHL Draft. He spent three seasons with the Oshawa Generals of the OHL before making his professional debut debut with the Flyers AHL affiliate, the Hershey Bears, and then making the Flyers team in the 1988-89 season. He spent three seasons in Philadelphia before being traded to the Boston Bruins.

His next move was to the Florida Panthers. They selected him in the 1993 NHL Expansion Draft and he spent the longest time there that he spent with any team, six seasons. He would then be traded to the Atlanta Thrashers in a deal during the 1999 NHL Expansion Draft and then finally back to Boston before retiring on March 19, 2002. His highlight was probably making it to the 1996 Stanley Cup Finals, all be it losing.

He is currently an assistant coach with the New York Rangers.

The Score on Gord Murphy – 6.0

Gord has a nice signature but the black on black of those Flyers uniforms really doesn’t help too much. I think the 1991-92 Pro Set card is the best since it has that bit of fade at the bottom. I really don’t remember that on other cards from that set, but it definitely helps the autograph.

Thanks Mr. Murphy! I’m giving this return a 6.
