The Story of the Autograph

Gary Rajsich is a former outfielder in the major leagues. He played from 1982 to 1985 in the U.S. with the New York Mets, St. Louis Cardinals, and San Francisco Giants. He then played for three years in Japan from 1986 to 1988 with the Chunichi Dragons.

Rajsich was born and raised in Ohio. Then he went on to Arizona State University to play baseball for the Sun Devils. The Houston Astros drafted him in the 11th round of the 1976 MLB Draft. He never made it to the majors with the Astros though. In 1981 he was traded to the Mets for another minor league. He would then make his major league debut for the Mets on April 9, 1982 after six years in the minors.

He played almost half a season for the Mets in 1982 for the Mets but that was the most he would play with any team in the majors. That would be his best season as he hit .259 with two homers and 12 RBI. After one more season in New York his contract was purchased by the Cardinals. He move on to the Giants the following year along with David Green, Dave LaPoint and Jose Uribe in the trade that sent Jack Clark to St. Louis. The Cardinals would purchase his contract again, but he had already played his last game in the majors.

He would later play in Japan and then the Senior Professional Baseball League. He’s the brother of former major league Dave Rajsich. In more recent years he’s worked as a scout for the Red Sox, Rangers, Blue Jays, and Orioles.

The Score on Gary Rajsich – 7.5

Gary has a a signature that seems likes it’s done in three sections. I kind of see “Gary” then “Raj” and then “sich”. If you are a regular reader you know I love the blue marker on that 1983 Topps card. It looks really sharp with the Mets blue. I think that’s the better one of this bunch.

Thanks Mr. Rajsich! I’m giving this return a 7.5.
