The Story of the Autograph
Ernie McAnally is a former right-handed starting pitcher in the major leagues. He played from 1971 to 1974 and spent his entire major league career with the Montreal Expos.
McAnally is a native of Texas. He went to Paris Junior College where he was drafted by the New York Mets in the 20th round of the 1966 MLB Draft. He wasn’t with the Mets very long though. After just a year in their minor league system he was chosen by the Montreal Expos in the 1968 Expansion Draft with the 49th pick. He would make his major league debut for them on April 11, 1971.
His first season was the best of his career. He never had a winning record in his career but that was the closest with an 11-12 record and 3.90 ERA in 31 games with 25 starts. He never got more than seven wins in any season and his best ERA for a season was 3.81 in 1972 before it started getting above four.
He moved on to the Indians when his contract was purchased by them in 1974. He played one year in their minor league system before calling it a career.
The Score on Ernie McAnally – 6.5
Ernie has quite a small signature. It probably would have come out really well on this card if it was a bit bigger because it really gives some good space for an autograph to sign. But even then, I don’t have many 1972 Topps cards signed, or have many of them at all anyway, so it’s always nice when I get one of them back.
Thanks Mr. McAnally! I’m giving this return a 6.5.
