The Story of the Autograph

Erik Hanson is a former right-handed starting pitcher. He played in the majors from 1988 to 1998 with the Seattle Mariners, Cincinnati Reds, Boston Red Sox and Toronto Blue Jays.

Hanson was born and raised in New Jersey. After high school he was first drafted by the Expos in the seventh round of the 1983 MLB Draft but never signed. He went on to attend Wake Forest University and was drafted by the Seattle Mariners in the second round of the 1986 MLB Draft. He made his major league debut as a September call-up on September 5, 1988.

Hanson was a curveball specialist and had some nice success in a couple of seasons. He went 9-5 with a 3.18 ERA in 1989 after debuting at the end of the season before and then he backed that up with an 18-9 record with a 3.24 ERA and 211 strikeouts in 1990. The next few seasons were unfortunately a bit down including a league leading 17 losses in 1992.

He moved on to the Reds and then to the Red Sox were he really found success again. In 1995 he went 15-5 with a 4.24 ERA and earned an All-Star appearance. He also pitched in the postseason in 1995 for the Sox. He moved on to the Blue Jays for a few seasons before pitching his last game in the majors on June 8, 1998. He tried to make it with the Angels and Royals before the end of that season but never made it back to the bigs.

Erik has a great signature and it came out great on these cards. I think my favorite card is the 1994 Fleer because I love a simple card with an autograph. But the card that came out the best was the 1992 Fleer Ultra. The Topps cards are a bit busy for showing off his autograph so I hope I find a few other cards to send him another time.

Thanks Mr. Hanson! I’m giving this return a 7.
