The Story of the Autograph
Duane Kuiper is a former second baseman. He played from 1974 through 1985 with the Cleveland Indians and San Francisco Giants.
Kuiper was born and raised in Racine, Wisconsin. He went to Southern Illinois University and was drafted by the Cleveland Indians in the first round of the 1972 MLB draft with the 21st overall pick. In all, Kuiper was chosen six times in the draft between 1968 and 1972. He was drafted by the Yankees, Pilots, White Sox, Reds, and Red Sox before finally signing with the Indians. He made his major league debut on September 9, 1974.
He was a good defender and a slap hitter. He only hit one home run in his career while with the Indians. But he also had a pretty interesting game in which he hit two bases-loaded triples against the Yankees in 1978 becoming only the third player to do so. Kuiper could steal a few bases in the beginning of his career as well but not much after a knee injury in the 1980 season that forced him to missed most of the year.
He was traded to the Giants and finished out his career in San Francisco. These days he pairs with Mike Krukow as part of a fan-favorite broadcast.
The Score on Duane Kuiper – 6.0
Duane has a pretty crazy signature but he really fill up the card. It looks like he tries to find a good place to sign the card judging by the odd angle he used on the ’84 Topps card. It almost makes it look like he signed the card upside down.
Thanks Mr. Kuiper! I’m giving this return a 6.
