The Story of the Autograph
Drew Storen is a right-handed relief pitcher in the major leagues. He appeared in the majors from 2010 through 2017 with the Nationals, Blue Jays, Mariners and Reds. While he hasn’t appeared in a major league game since 2017, the Phillies did sign him in January 2020.
Storen was born and raised in Indiana. As a kid he played with another future major leaguer, Lance Lynn. He was great in high school and helped his team to a State Championship and won several individual accolades as well. He was good enough that the Yankees picked him in the 34th round of the 2007 MLB Draft, but he didn’t sign. Instead he went on to play for Stanford and two years later the Nationals made him the 10th overall pick of the 2009 MLB Draft.
The Nationals had him debut next May (May 17, 2010) and he started out really well. In 2011 he put together a great season with a 6-3 record, 2.75 ERA and 43 saves. He also struck out 74 batters in 75.1 innings. Storen seems to be their closer of the future but before the next season he had surgery to remove bone chips from his elbow. He went on to share the closer role with Tyler Clippard when he came back.
Unfortunately, starting with the end of the 2012, his story started to be defined by postseason failures. He blew a save in the key game against the Cardinals in 2012 and again against the Giants in 2014, plus some important games late in 2015. Those types of moments led the Nationals to bring in guys like Rafael Soriano and Jonathan Papelbon along the way.
The Nationals traded Storen to the Blue Jays before the 2016 season and since then he’s bounced around a bit. He hasn’t played in the majors since 2017, but he still keeping the dream alive. He always seemed like a good guy and I know his experience against the Cardinals in the 2012 postseason had to hit him pretty hard.

Drew has a crazy signature there. You definitely can fit that in a box. It’s kind of all on top of each other and you can’t tell what was what. Either the marker is a little dry or he signs these so fast the ink just can keep up. Of course it could be a combination of both too. Still, he drops a ton of ink on the card and these cards show it off pretty well.
