The Story of the Autograph
Diego Segui is a former pitcher in the major leagues. His career spanned from 1962 to 1977 and he worked as both a starter and a reliever. He played for the Kansas City and Oakland Athletics, Washington Senators, Seattle Pilots and Mariners, St. Louis Cardinals, and Boston Red Sox.
Segui was born in Cuba and started his career in the major with the Kansas City Athletics on April 12, 1962. For the first several years of he started a significant amount of games and later moved into more of a relief role aside from a couple years in Oakland. He never put up a big record with his best record and highest win total being a 12-6 record in 1969 with the Seattle Pilots. He was the ERA leader in the league in 1970 while in Oakland with a 2.56 ERA.
Something I found interesting about Segui was not only that he moved around a lot, but he played for teams that either moved or were expansion teams a bunch. The majority of his career (nine years) was spent with the Athletics who were in both Kansas City and Oakland and then later with the Senators (who eventually moved). Then he played for the Pilots and the Mariners in Seattle.
Diego’s son David later played in the majors.
The Score on Diego Segui – 5.5
Diego is a “sign on the line” kind of guy. He also has a bit of a small signature. The two things combined can kind of hide the signature a bit. Take the ’73 card for example. The black line mixes with the signature a bit.
Thanks Mr. Segui! I’m giving this one a 5.5.
