The Story of the Autograph
David Nied is a former right-handed pitcher in the major leagues. He pitched from 1992 through 1996 with the Atlanta Braves and the Colorado Rockies.
Nied was born and raised in the Dallas-Fort Worth area of Texas. The Braves drafted him out of high school in the 14th round of the 1987 MLB Draft. After spending several years in the minors, Nied was recognized as one of the top prospects in baseball prior to the 1992 an 1993 seasons. In 1992 he had a great Spring Training but was sent to the minors and was a September call up at the end of the season, debuting on September 1, 1992. He put up a 3-0 record with a 1.17 ERA to close out the season.
In 1993, the Rockies chose Nied as their first pick in the 1993 MLB Expansion Draft. They made him their Opening Day starter in a loss to the New York Mets. Given he had the first start he also has the franchises first strikeout, walk, complete game and complete game shutout. At the end of his first year in Colorado he had a 5-9 record with a 5.17 ERA in 16 starts. 1994 was a much better year as Nied posted a 9-7 record with a 4.80 ERA in 22 starts.
Unfortunately, those were the last wins of his career. He didn’t play much throughout 1995 and 1996. He moved on to the Reds in free agency but never appeared in a major league game for them and retired from baseball with arm injuries.
The Score on David Nied – 7.0
David has a pretty cool signature. It’s neat the way he runs his first name into his last name. There’s a lot of flair in that part of his signature. My favorite card of these is the 1993 Leaf. I like that one because it would be his and the Rockies first year.
Thanks Mr. Nied! I’m giving this return a 7.
