The Story of the Autograph

David Hulse is a former outfielder in the major leagues. He played for the Texas Rangers and Milwaukee Brewers from 1992 to 1996.

Hulse is a native of Texas. He went to Schreiner University in Texas and was then drafted by the Rangers in the thirteenth round of the 1990 MLB Draft. He made his major league debut for them two years later on August 11, 1992. He only played in 32 games to end that season but had a promising .304 average in 97 plate appearances.

He got a pretty good shot in 1993, appearing in 114 games. It was probably his best season as he hit .290 with one homer, 29 RBI, 29 stolen bases, nine doubles and ten triples. Unfortunately he only made it into 77 games in the majors the following season and his stats dropped off. In April of 1995 he was traded to the Brewers for Scott Taylor.

The Brewers gave him a pretty good shot in the majors, getting him in 119 games. He didn’t his as well average-wise and he didn’t steal as many bases. He did have a career high 47 RBI though. The following season, 1996, he only made it into 81 games and it would be his final major league season. He was injured in a home plate collision against his former team. Although he rehabbed he would never make it back to the majors again, trying with the Red Sox and Cardinals.

The Score on David Hulse – 6.5

David has a sort of sweeping style of signature. I think you can recognize it has his name as you read it. You definitely see the “D” and the “H” in there. These cards do a pretty good job of showing it off with the 1994 Pinnacle card becing the best for that. That is an interesting image though because he’s holding the baseball as a runner.

Thanks Mr. Hulse! I’m giving this return a 6.5.
