The Story of the Autograph

David DeJesus played the outfield in Major League Baseball for the Royals, Athletics, Cubs, Nationals, Rays, and Angels. With the majority of his career being in Kansas City (2003-2010) I would think most people remember him as a Royal like I do. These days he works for NBC Sport Chicago.

DeJesus grew up in New Jersey and was drafted by the Mets out of high school in 1997.  But the didn’t sign with the Mets and instead went to school at Rutgers (like a good Jersey boy). Then in 2000 he was draft by the Royals. After a few years in the minors he made his debut in September of 2003. Carlos Beltran was traded to the Astros in 2004 and DeJesus replaced him in centerfield.

After having his option picked up in 2010, DeJesus was traded to the A’s.  That started a lot of free agent signings and trades that would take him through the end of his career. In 2013, the Cubs traded David to the Nationals in August. He played just three games for the Nationals and went 0-for-3 and then was traded just four days later to the Rays.

Looking back at his career, his prime years were probably 2005 or 2006 through 2010, all with the Royals. I think his best overall year might have been 2008 when he played 135 games, hit 25 doubles, 7 triples, 12 homers, drove in 73 RBI, stole 11 bases and hit .307. Almost all of those are either career highs or just below it. But I think it was the year that he had the best total package of stats.

The Score on David DeJesus – 4.5

David’s autograph is kind of a jumble of his name all together, but it’s big and I like that. It would have come out so much better though if it was with a Sharpie. But he did sign his face and a Sharpie would have really covered that up. Honestly, this was just one I had given up on so I’m glad it actually came back.

Thanks Mr. Dejesus! I’m giving this a 4.5, mostly because of the ball point pen.
