The Story of the Autograph
Dave Freisleben is a former right-handed pitcher in the major leagues. He played from 1974 to 1979 with the San Diego Padres, Cleveland Indians, and Toronto Blue Jays.
Freisleben was born in Pennsylvania but grew up in Texas. In high school he played quarterback in football as well as playing baseball. The Padres drafted him out of high school with a fifth round pick in the 1971 MLB Draft. He would be Pitcher of the Year while in their minor league system and made his major league debut on April 26, 1974.
He was starter for the vast majority of his career, really until his final year in Toronto. But in six years in the league he never had a winning season. He began that with three years of double-digit loses (9-14, 5-14, and 10-13). But while in San Diego he did model “Washington Stars” uniforms in 1974 when the Padres were proposing to move to Washington, DC before the deal fell through.
After retiring he coach in the minors and then later was a saltwater fishing guide in Galveston Bay.
The Score on Dave Freisleben – 6.5
Dave has a pretty standard signature. The 1977 Topps card just doesn’t really give you a good chance to see it. The best card is the 1976 Topps card. It probably helps that that might be my favorite card design of the 70’s. The only other thing I have to say is that every time I write his name I have to think really hard to get it right.
Thanks Mr. Freisleben. I’m giving this return a 6.5.
