The Story of the Autograph

Dave Berg is a former infielder in the major leagues. He played second base, third base and shortstop for an almost even amount in his seven year career that spanned from 1998 to 2004. During that time he played for the Florida Marlins and Toronto Blue Jays.

Berg is a Roseville, California native. He first went to Sacramento College where he was drafted by the California Angels in the 32nd round of the 1990 MLB Draft but did sign. From there he went on to the Hurricanes at the University of Miami. He was then drafted again by the Florida Marlins in the 38th round of the 1993 MLB Draft.

He would make his major league debut on April 2, 1998. That made him the lowest ever Marlins draft pick to reach the majors. He would play a half a season that year and hit .313  with two homers and 21 RBI. He was pretty much good to appear in at least a half a season’s worth of games during his time in Florida with a career high 109 in his second year of 1999.

He moved on to Toronto to play for the Blue Jays in the final three seasons of his career. He ended up with a .269 career batting average, 21 home runs and 163 RBI in 582 career games. He played his last major league game on September 29, 2004. But before he called it a career he would try to make it with the Red Sox, Cardinals and Rangers.

Dave has a pretty fun signature. I just wish it wasn’t on such a busy card so it could get shown off a bit better. I like this add because I’ve been trying to add more of the last rounds of expansions teams to my collection. It’s finding guys like this that are going to be my biggest successes.

Thanks Mr. Berg! I’m giving this return a 7.
