The Story of the Autograph
Danny Espinosa is a former second baseman and shortstop in the major leagues. He played from 2010 to 2017 with the Washington Nationals, Los Angeles Angels, Seattle Mariners, and Tampa Bay Rays.
Espinosa was born and raised in Santa Ana, California. He went to the famous Mater Dei High School and then to Cal State Long Beach. The Nationals drafted him in the third round of the 2008 MLB Draft and he debuted two years later on September 1, 2010.
You definitely can’t count on Espinosa to hit for average as his career .221 batting average attests to, but he did show a bit of power during his time in the majors, when he wasn’t slumping. In his rookie season of 2011 he hit .236 with 21 homers and 66 RBI and then in his last season in Washington he hit .209 with career highs in homers (24) and RBI (72). At times he was a big part of the rise of the Nationals in the NL East.
When the Nationals acquired Trea Turner in 2016, Espinosa became expendable. They traded him to the Angels later that year. That was the last place he spent any significant time with a major league club with 7 games in 2017. He’s been released and signed to minor league deals several times but only played eight games each with the Mariners and Rays in that 2017 season.
He last appeared in the Mexican League with the Acereros de Monclava after signing with them in February of 2020.
While “Dirtbag” isn’t really his nickname, but more the nickname of the Long Beach State team he played for, Espinosa always represented that state of mind as being a hard-nosed player.

So glad that this came back from Danny. One of my best friend’s kids always was an Espinosa fan and he loved it when this one came in. It was out FOREVER though and these always make me wonder how the signers even keep these around. I mean obviously this somehow went through several moves and teams he played for.
