The Story of the Autograph

Cris Carpenter is a former right-handed pitcher. He played for the Cardinals, Marlins, Rangers and Brewers over his eight year career.

Carpenter was born in Florida and ended up in Georgia for high school. He then went to the University of Georgia for college. He was originally drafted by the Toronto Blue Jays in 1986 but chose not to sign. The next year the Cardinals drafted him with the 14th overall pick (he was drafted in the sixth round the year before) and he signed. After a few years in the minors, Carpenter debuted on May 14, 1988.

He would move on to the Marlins via the expansion draft and was part of their inaugural team in 1993. The Marlins would trade him later that year to the Ranger in a deal that brought then Robb Nen. He finished his career in Milwaukee after the Cardinals gave him another shot.

His best years were in St. Louis where probably in St. Louis with 1992 maybe being one of his best overall. That year he appear in a career high 73 games with 88 innings pitched. He put up a 5-4 record with a 2.97 ERA.  While that wasn’t his best record or ERA in his career, it was impressive give his workload.

These days Carpenter is a social studies teacher in the high school he graduated from – Gainesville High School.

The Score on Cris Carpenter – 7.5

Cris used a great marker, he filled up the card, and there’s no mess ups or smudges. There’s really not much wrong with these at all from any perspective you look at it. Sometimes the guy you get to sign might not be the most well known guy, but they put some effort into what they put on the card.

Thanks Mr. Carpenter! I’m giving this return a 7.5.
