The Story of the Autograph
Charlie Spikes is a former outfielder in the major leagues. He played from 1972 through 1980 with the Yankees, Indians, Tigers, and Braves. He also played an additional year in Japan with the Chunichi Dragons in 1981.
Spikes was born and raised in Bogalusa, Louisiana. He would later be nicknamed “The Bogalusa Bomber.” The Yankees drafted him out of high school in the first round of the 1969 MLB Draft with the eleventh overall pick. He made his debut three years later on September 1, 1972. After that first season with the Yankees they traded him to the Indians where he would spend the most significant part of his career.
He spent 1973 through 1977 in Cleveland and was a starter once he got to town. His broke the 20 homer plateau in both of his first two years in Cleveland, but 1974 was clearly the best year of his career. He hit .271 with 22 homers, 23 doubles, 80 RBI, and 10 stolen bases. After 1974 his playing time and numbers would decrease.
Cleveland traded him to Detroit for the 1978 season and then he would move on to the Braves for two years after being released. He then spent a year in Japan before ending his career.

Charlies has a bit of a shaky signature. But what lowers the score on these are just some of the pet peeves I have about the cards themselves. The 1977 card has a facsimile that he has to sign around and there’s an extra mark on it. The for the 1978 he signed in a dark spot and then looked like he tried to find a good spot to sign on the other one. Unfortunately there aren’t many good spots on the card to sign.
