The Story of the Autograph

Charles Nagy is a former major league starting pitcher who played for 14 seasons. He’s primarily known as a Cleveland Indian where he spent 13 years of his career.

Nagy was born in Connecticut, lived a few years in Florida, and then went to high school back in Connecticut where he played baseball and Football. He then attended UConn and still hold a number of records or places in the top ten in many statistical categories for pitching. He was also a member of the 1988 Summer Olympic team that played in Seoul, South Korea where the USA won gold in the exhibition sport.

The Indians drafted Nagy in the 1988 MLB Draft with the 17th overall pick of the first round. He made his first appearance for the Indians on June 29, 1990. He was a huge part of the Indians in the 1990’s and was a key member of the 1995 and 1997 teams that appeared in the World Series.

Nagy was an All-Star three times (1992, 1996, 1999) and was in the Cy Young voting three times in his career as well. He won 10 or more games eight times including three years with 17, one with 16 and two with 15. His career marks include a 129-105 record, 4.51 ERA, and 1242 strikeouts.

Charles’ signature comes out as one word as he mixes both his first and last names together. That means it tends to be on the smaller side, but definitely not the smallest we’ve ever seen. I like the 1991 Upper Deck card the best, but that’s the one where the signature was over his dark jersey so it didn’t come out the best. I think the 1991 Score card is my least favorite card, but the best signature.

Thanks Mr. Nagy! I’m giving this one a 6.
