The Story of the Autograph
Cameron Rupp is a catcher for the Philadelphia Phillies. He worked his way up through the rank since 2010 and got his first action in 2013. After being a backup for a few years, he’s been taking on more of the catching duties in the last three.
Rupp is from Texas and although he was drafted by the Pirates in 2007, he didn’t sign and instead attended the University of Texas. He was a pretty good hitter in college and helped the Longhorns to a runner-up finish in the College World Series in his sophomore season and was named to the All-College World Series team. After his junior season he was drafted by the Phillies in the 3rd round in the 2010 draft.
He spent the next 3 years working his way through the minors and got a September callup in 2013. By 2015 he was outplaying Carlos Ruiz and started getting more of the catching duties. In the last three years he played at least 81 games with a high of 105 in 2016. He doesn’t hit for much average with his best year (barring his cup of coffee in 2013) being 2016 when he hit .252. He’s gotten double digit homers the last two year with 16 and 14.
The one thing I’ll say that you notice about Rupp is that he is a big boy. He’s 6’2″, but he’s also 260. I’m really surprised he doesn’t hit more homers, especially in Philly. He looks like a guy who should be working on a farm.
The Score on Cameron Rupp – 7.0
Cameron has one of those autos that mainly focused on his initials. The signature on the 2016 Topps is the best example for him. I think this is normally about the size of how he signs and that’s awesome. The Heritage card is actually a little small for him and for some reason the marker didn’t come out as well on that one. I think a of this score is owed to the space he uses rather than the style he has.
Thanks Mr. Rupp! These get a 7.
