The Story of the Autograph

Brian Propp is a former left wing in the NHL. He played from 1979 to 1994 with the Philadelphia Flyers, Boston Bruins, Minnesota North Stars and Hartford Whalers.

Propp was born and raised in the province of Saskatchewan in Canada. He had some great years in junior hockey including time with the Brandon Wheat Kings at a time when they were a powerhouse club in Canadian junior hockey. He played alongside several future NHLers and won two league scoring titles. After his third season he was drafted by the Flyers with the 14th overall pick of the 1979 NHL Draft.

He made it into the NHL with the team right away and spent the next ten and a half seasons with the Flyers. It all started with a game-winning goal as his first career goal, against the Islanders. He would go on to beat the left wing rookie scoring record with 75 points. He had some really amazing seasons during his time in Philly. They would end up moving him to Boston in an effort to bring in some younger players. Then he left as a free agent and spent a few years in Minnesota before closing out his career with a year in Hartford.

One of the things he was his goal celebration called “The Guffaw”. He would skate toward center ice, put his glove under his arm and wave while saying “Guffaw”. He credited Howie Mandel for it.

Brian personalizes and adds his numbers to all of the cards he signs. I think with this batch I was glad to get him signing something from almost every team he played for, but I do which it was more Flyers related since that’s where he played most. I think for the most part it looks like he’s a guy that tries to find a place to sign where you can see his signature. That’s just kind of tough on hockey cards.

Thanks Mr. Propp! I’m giving this return a 6 overall.
